Feedback CITES CoP 19 Day 4 & 5

COP 19 Day 4 & 5: Plenary: Committee 1 & 2
17 & 18 November 2022

The pace is picking up substantially, with meetings running to 22:00 at night, and the Agenda already behind almost a day. There are many issues that could possibly affect our sector, our lives and our economy- from the uplisting of teak (shields used for European Mounts), to that of shark (food). Both timber and fisheries are important pillars of our economy. On the other side discussions around elephant, hippo and community/livelihoods have been ongoing.

The SUCo-SA team and alliance partners has made several interventions, some of which can be read at https://sellheimenvironmental.org/2022/11/18/delivered-intervention-on-proposal-49-to-uplist-brazil-wood-from-appendix-ii-to-appendix-i/.
